Who am I?

My name is Katherina Polig and I’m an independent translator, interpreter and terminologist. I am based in the UK and as such subject to the requirements of the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Cookies

Like most websites, mine also uses cookies to collect data. Cookies are small data files which are placed on your computer (PCs, smart phones or tablets) as you browse. They are used to remember when your computer or device accesses this website, they help it operate effectively and improve your user experience. The data collected includes pages viewed and your journey around the website. These cookies are not used to collect or record data on your name, address or other contact details. You can disable the use of cookies by changing your browser settings to reject cookies.

Why do I process your personal data?

I collect, store and use personal data for the following purposes:

- to issue quotes and invoices

- to provide translation, editing, interpreting or terminology services as requested by you

- to request a translation, editing, interpreting or terminology service from you

- or to comply with legal requirements

 

Personal data I collect and process may include your name, postal address, email address, telephone number, and VAT number, as well as banking details, personal information on CVs or information on documents sent for the purpose of performing a translation, editing, interpreting or terminology service. All data is processed on password-protected computers and is not accessible by any unauthorised person. I do not use your personal data for marketing purposes.

 

Legal grounds

The legal basis for processing your personal data is to perform a service you requested or to take necessary steps prior to fulfilling that request (“performance of contract”, GDPR Art. 6.1.b), as well as to comply with legal requirements.

 

Who else may have access to your personal data?

If I outsource some or part of the service you requested to a colleague, I will make sure that the colleague in question is also GDPR compliant and ask them to process the document accordingly. For administrative purposes, other parties may have access to your personal data, including my accountant, my accounting software provider, my website and email hosting service provider as well as my EEA-based cloud backup service provider. I will ensure any third party I work with is GDPR compliant.

 

How long do I keep your personal data?

I will keep your personal data for 10 years unless you ask me to delete or remove it sooner. Should you ask me to delete translations before the 10-year period has expired, I cannot be held responsible for queries or claims relating to the content, as I have no way of verifying the accuracy of the original content.

 

Your data access rights

You are entitled to view the personal data I hold about you, have it amended or deleted at any time. Please email your request directly to me, and I will act upon this as soon as possible, within a maximum of one month from the date of your request.

 

Your right to lodge a complaint

Should you have any concerns about how I process your personal data, please contact me. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority in the UK (the Information Commissioner’s Office or ICO) or in the country where you live.

 

This Privacy Notice was updated in May 2018 and will be reviewed as and when necessary.
